This review comes from my friend Ganesh, who recently visited a place called ” purepur Kohalapur”. Before I start with anything I must tell you this is a specifically a non-veg restaurant. Kohalapur is famous for it’s 2 type of rassa ( gravy)1. Pandra rassa  ( white Gravy) and tambda rassa( red gravy).. look don’t go by name both gravies are very hot. yes, but it’s true these gravies hold a different identity and Kohalapuri dish can’t be complete without it.

He found the hotel is quite spacious and good ambiance. You will have all thali’s in the restaurant like chicken thali, egg thali and mutton thali  and different variety in that thali as well. Each thali will cost you around 140 rs.  Apart from this you will be able to order the specific dish separately. Don’t try masala milk :(

They say they are ready to deliver the food @ any corner of mumbai with small charge and if the total bill goes above 800 rs then the home delivery will be free…:)

Got few details abut the restaurant:

Shop no 1, 2, Aditya appt, parleshwar road , in front of parleshwar mandir, Parle East. Mumbai 400057.

King of all Bhaji.

March 19, 2009

pav-bhajiKing of mangoes is hapuse mango, king of Ganpati is lalbagcha ganpati similarly,  king of all bhaji is pavbhaji… don’t tell me you disagree with this.

On any lazy evening want to have full of fats and want to make the evening more lazy then please do have it. It goes with  company of friends gossiping and chitchatting spending an hour on table. We have a pavbahji shop called bhagwati. It is said that, the owner started with a small pav bhaji gadi and now he owns two hotels. The speciality of this hotel is that they put lots of butter in bhaji as well as while frying the bread which is served along with the bhaji. Also they have a red chatni which is served along with the pav bhaji which is its patent. It’s spicy and you won’t mind eating only chatni with bread, a good amount of salad ( onion and tomato slices are served along with it. This pav bhaji corner is open till very late night and people find it good to sit, eat and talk a lot.

This also has lot of variations like khada pav bhaji( the basic ingredients, potatoes and capsicum are not mashed but kept as a small chopped pieces), jain pav bhaji ( no onion, no garlic , no potato, don’t know what it is made of, never dare to try it), masala pav ( very small quantity of bhaji placed between bread).

Shiv sagar do say that there pav bhaji is the best … now you have to decide if that’s true or not.

Where to have it?
Pav bhaji gadi @ any khau  gali.

Bhagawati  @ kandivali … it is open till 4 am in the morning.

Shivsagar @ juhu

Pvabhaji stall@ juhu beach

Any restaurant

When to have it?
Evening with lot’s of friends.

What we should have with this?
A masala chass( butter milk) goes well, most people prefer fruit juice or cold drink with it. Even a masala papad goes very well with pav bhaji.

How it tastes?
Fine chopped potatoes , capsicum, green peas and cauliflower. Then spacial pav bhaji masala includes red chilly , dhaniya and lots of garam masala is added to the paste. All are kept on the  big Pan( tawa) and not to forget  lots and lots of butter.
Then on the same pan bread ( not bread slice these are special bread for pav bhaji ) is fried with butter.  Also served with lime and chopped onions to add as per your choice.

Cost?
Will cost you ranging from 40 Rs to 100 RS.

Ice Ice in this summer

March 19, 2009

Summer is approaching, Mumbaikars started feeling the heat.  Every time you step out of office or home you will either carry  a bottle of water or stop at any shop to get a cold drink. I have another option which will not only fulfill your desire thirst but will keep you chill for longer time.  Try out  ICE candy  very well known as a berf ( ice) ka gola and also in that  you must have kalakhatta gola.

Again you have lot of options in gola like, orange flavour, kachi kari, mix, khus, rose gola. This is a ice candy and if you are very lucky, you will get a glass filled with that flavour juice.  What we have to do is try to finish that juice in the glass using your ice candy… fun if you haven’t had it… then you must must have it. It will give you ice cold flavour. There is small variation in this as well called chamcha gola… where the ice is served in the glass rather than enclosing a stick.

Again this was also can’t remain untouched by the modernization and new stuff in the market is called malai gola. Yes! again flavoured gola served with rabadi, lot of dry fruits and mawa. This is a richer version of ice candy but definitely affordable to all.

Where to have it.

Normally on a nimboo sharbt gadi @ corner of loacal roads.

Juhu beach @ my personal favorite.
Oberoi mall food court @ Goregaon east
Elco super market @  Bandra

When to have it.
Mostly in the afternoon when you are dam thirsty… it’s a different pleasure.

What we should have with this.
Nothing.

How it taste’s.
Basically it’s a juice( flavour you choose ) with lot’s of lime and some sort of chat masala. The task given to you is to finish the juice in the glass using ice candy … go try now.

Cost.
Will cost you ranging from 15 Rs to 30 RS.
